The code is in french, the attributes are in french, the css is in french, it must be a nightmare for non-french speaker, this is a great limitation for spip.

I'm using spip for my english websites (ex : a la french), but it's impossible to get english people coding into spip, and even to maintain it : the /ecrire is not a good idea, not a good name. At least, it should be /login. Anyway, it's a big limitation and spip would benefit from a real global community. In English.

Tom, Français vivant dans un pays anglophone
SPIP Info 2009-07-07T07:53:49Z https://contrib.spip.net/SPIP-Info#comment418017 2009-07-07T07:53:49Z
Pour moi, il est libre puisqu'il se trouve ici :

http://zone.spip.org/trac/spip-zone/browser/_squelettes_/spip-info?rev=28691
SPIP Info 2009-07-04T21:27:47Z https://contrib.spip.net/SPIP-Info#comment417968 2009-07-04T21:27:47Z
Merci de l'info, mais je ne pense pas que l'absence de licence signifie que le squelette est libre.

si quelqu'un pouvait confirmer.

merci.
SPIP Info 2009-07-04T11:46:49Z https://contrib.spip.net/SPIP-Info#comment417963 2009-07-04T11:46:49Z
Tu peux les récuperer comme ceci (en mode console, sous GNU/Linux)

wget -x -nc -r -np http://www.spip-info.net/sites/spip-info/squelettes

As far as users are concerned (authors) I know for a fact there is no problem with SPIP in an international context. For web development, I understand that there might be significant difficulties for non French-speakers to stay up-to-date.

About the « presentation card », please feel free to translate it and I am sure that we can arrange an English-language version as well. If there is actually a community of webdeveloppers and users interested in keeping it updated, this would be great indeed.

We had been thinking about it when developping it and came to the conclusion that we should just go ahead with a single language website for a start and build upon it if and when members of the non-french speaking SPIP community express interest. If you feel like helping, you will be very welcome. Get in touch.

This is not only about translation but also about content : pages on the community, links to websites about SPIP, exemples of websites build with SPIP should all be « localized » as well. Are you up to it ?
SPIP Info 2009-06-09T04:50:29Z https://contrib.spip.net/SPIP-Info#comment417154 2009-06-09T04:50:29Z
Spip is a wonderful software, technically better than other cms solutions, but (IMHO) it can't explode all its potential because the recurrent « french centralism ». If the « presentation card » (like this new site) is just in french, the code is commented in french, the documentation is only up to date in french... then will be very difficult to get more critical mass to spread, improve and move forward the project.

it's time to understand that free software isn't about code, it's about people.
